Golf Injuries

Lower back pain is a common complaint among golfers. That doesn’t mean golf is bad exercise; besides being something that can be done while physically distancing, it allows you to stretch and absorb sunlight to produce Vitamin D. But golf does have a downside, and at the Carrollton chiropractic office of Dr. Peter Lazarnick (Dr. Pete), we want our patients to understand how they can mitigate their risk, and what options are available to them if they are injured. Although the perfect golf swing is a smooth motion, even in the best cases it requires the spine to experience torsion at high speed. The lower back, or lumbar region, doesn’t have as much lateral muscle support as other parts of the spinal column. The support it does have is subjected to a large amount of force (torque) during a swing, and spinal discs that are having to take the brunt of the torque could easily fray. The facet joints connecting the backs of the vertebrae may also fracture, allowing the vertebrae to slip slig...

Chiropractic Care for Knee Pain

Knee pain can affect anyone, from a professional football player to somebody just running errands on a Sunday. It is, unfortunately, a common occurrence that usually goes ignored. Leaving knee pain untended will progress whatever problem is going on into something worse. Dr. Pete Lazarnick “Dr. Pete” in Carrollton, GA, will help alleviate your knee pain. Dr. Pete also wants to prevent it from coming back with careful manipulation, stretching, and adjustments.   The knee is responsible for balance and stability and happens to be the joint in the body that bears the most weight. If you notice any knee pain while sitting, walking, or going up and down the stairs, these are all indications that something is wrong. Additionally, any clicking, popping or grinding sounds while kneeling or squatting indicate knee damage. Dr. Pete approaches knee pain treatment with a combination of therapies that integrate the strengthening and stretching of the knee with chiropractic adjustments.   Unlike yo...

What is Musculoskeletal Pain?

We’re proud to offer non-invasive, non-addictive, complementary pain relief at the Carrollton Chiropractic office of Dr. Peter Lazarnick (Dr. Pete). Joint disorders, and especially lower back pain, are extremely common, but can often be soothed with holistic therapies. However, to treat musculoskeletal pain, we have to recognize it, which is why this week’s blog post is dedicated to describing how musculoskeletal pain manifests. It is important to understand that pain can be referred to the musculoskeletal system from other organs. Pain that originates in the musculoskeletal system tends to have distinct traits. Muscle, tendon, and ligament pain is usually sharp when caused by acute injuries and worse when the patient is in certain positions. Bone pain feels more intense and penetrating. Joint pain is often described as aching and is usually present both when the joint is in motion or resting, although it may be worse while in motion. Bursae pain is usually worse when a person is movi...

Osteoarthritis and Difficulty Sleeping

Getting a good night’s sleep is hard when you have arthritis. You often wake up with stiff joints and tight muscles, and you’re much more vulnerable to inflammation from ordinary activity. And because you’re in pain, it’s harder for you to fall asleep at night, trapping you in a cycle of discomfort. Fortunately, we at the Carrollton chiropractic office of Dr. Peter Lazarnick (Dr. Pete) offer several safe pain-relief treatments for people suffering from osteoarthritis, as well as lifestyle advice that will restore the joints’ range of motion and keep them more comfortable as the patient sleeps. Arthritis means “joint inflammation” and can be caused by several diseases. Osteoarthritis is a condition in which the cartilage that cushions bones gets eroded, causing the bones to rub against each other. Besides resulting in irritation, it can also trigger the development of bony spurs. These spurs could put more pressure on nearby soft tissues, such as the back muscles that stretch over the ...

Fall Prevention and Chiropractic

Did you know that lower back pain is one of the strongest indicators of whether an older person will suffer a fall? The association isn’t incidental; pain often causes people to change their movements in ways that cause them to lose their balance. At the Carrolton chiropractic office of Dr. Peter Lazarnick (Dr. Pete), we help older patients manage pain without dangerous medications, but fall prevention also requires lifestyle changes. We assess whether a patient’s lower back and limb muscles are doing their part to keep them stable and aligned. We can make chiropractic adjustments to return the joints to their proper position, but exercise is necessary to keep them in place. Older patients often favor low-impact exercises, such as swimming and use of a stationary bicycle, that will not subject their spinal discs to jostling (although they should be mindful to frequently change positons while on the bicycle). It is also crucial to maintain ankle strength and flexibility, since the rest ...

Hand Manipulation for Back Pain

The most common therapeutic procedure performed by Dr. Peter Lazarnick (Dr. Pete) is known as “spinal manipulation,” also called a “chiropractic adjustment. The object of this treatment is to reduce the subluxation, with the goals of increasing range of motion, reducing nerve irritably and improving function. Adjustments are an excellent way to keep the body functioning at its highest level. Through spinal manipulation, also called manual therapy, Dr. Lazarnick will use his hands to apply a controlled, sudden force to a specific joint. Patients may hear a popping noise, such as when you crack your knuckles, but the end result will leave you pain-free. In addition to spinal manipulation, Dr. Lazarnick uses a unique approach to soft tissue manual therapy that most chiropractors are not trained in. Dr. Lazarnick may also suggest heat therapy, cryotherapy, electrical stimulation, or traction table therapy. If you have questions or concerns regarding chiropractic care or spinal manipulation...
