Upper Crossed Syndrome

Good posture is one of the most important aspects of maintaining a healthy spinal column. Without it, you’re at risk for developing Upper Crossed Syndrome, a condition that causes people pain all the way from their jaws to their upper backs. We can provide holistic, non-invasive treatments for it at the Carrollton chiropractic office of Dr. Peter Lazarnick (Dr. Pete), but to help our patients avoid it, we need to explain what it is. If you were to look at someone from the side, you could draw one diagonal line from the top of the center of their shoulders to their pectorals, and an intersecting diagonal from the side of their neck to their upper back. In a person with Upper Crossed Syndrome, the top of the shoulders and pectorals are tight and enlarged from being over active, while their neck and upper back muscles are weak from underuse. This happens when people spend too much time sitting hunched forward. The more they hold this posture, the more their muscles become misshapen, leav...

Facet Joint Disorder

Facet Joint Syndrome is one of the most common of painful conditions. It affects the joints in the back of the spinal column that connect vertebrae together, and the pain it causes can be widespread. Fortunately, with safe, conservative treatment, we at the Carrollton chiropractic office of Dr. Peter Lazarnick (Dr. Pete) can relieve patients from pain while putting their joints in the best position for complete, natural healing. The facet joints allow the spine to move in all directions and are complex structures. They may be damaged by sudden trauma, such as whiplash, or their dysfunction may develop gradually as a result of degeneration in the cartilage or nearby spinal discs. Small tears in the joint’s tissue can cause its components to slide out of place (a subluxation) and trigger spasms in the nearby muscles. Degeneration is likelier to occur when the joints are subjected to excessive weight and are overused in a repetitive manner. It is often difficult for patients to determine ...

Migraines

If you are suffering from migraines, Dr. Pete Lazarnick (Dr. Pete) can help you treat them. Migraines can cause occur in any part of your head or in one specific location. While the exact cause of migraines isn’t known, studies have linked migraines to a chemical imbalance.  Serotonin levels, which help to regulate pain in your nervous system, drops during migraines and can cause your trigeminal nerve to release a substance called neuropeptides that result in migraine pain. Certain foods can cause migraines as well as stress and hormonal changes for women.  When possible, we encourage our patients that work at a desk to practice good posture. Having poor posture can lead to spinal misalignment and fatigue in the head, neck, and shoulders. While at work, make sure your feet are on the ground and your back is pressed firmly against the back of your chair to prevent back and neck pain.  Migraines are extremely painful and can make it nearly impossible to perform everyday activities. Getting Adjusted

Before chiropractic care is administered, Dr. Peter Lazarnick (Dr. Pete) will consult medical history with the patient and a physical examination will be performed to determine which treatment is appropriate. Chiropractic techniques may include manipulation and adjustments to the spine and are a safe, comfortable and effective method of treatment. Depending on the patient, a treatment plan may involve one or more manual adjustments in which Dr. Pete manipulates the joints, using a controlled force to improve the range and quality of motion. A chiropractic adjustment will involve one of our doctors using their hands to apply a high velocity, short lever arm thrust to a vertebra. Often, patients will feel a sense of relief as the subluxation is released. It should be known that nothing is being cracked, but simply adjusted and put back in place. There are typically no side effects related to chiropractic adjustments though the patient may experience mild soreness afterward. If you have q...

Arthritis

Other Symptoms of arthritis include swelling or stiffness, joins that look red or feels warm to touch, tenderness, trouble moving, and the inability to do daily tasks that patients would otherwise have no issue performing. Introduction to Osteoarthritis

“Arthritis” is a term that refers to joint inflammation, but there’s a lot more nuance to it than that. It’s also the most common cause of back pain and debilitation among Americans. At Dr. Pete’s Carrollton chiropractic office, we provide treatments that are fitted to each patient’s health history. In the case of osteoarthritis, a lot of our efforts will be focused on preventing more damage. Osteoarthritis differs from rheumatic arthritis in that it is not an autoimmune condition. Instead, it is what happens when the cartilage within joints wears down. Cartilage is a slippery substance that provides cushioning and lubrication, but if its surface becomes pitted from erosion, it won’t be able to do its jobs as well. As bones are able to move less freely, the joints will become more sensitive. In the most extreme cases, bones may rub against each other, causing them to become deformed or for bits of them to splinter off. Cartilage erosion is a degenerative process, but people are at grea...
