Are you an enthusiastic athlete or workout buff? If so, you are at risk of receiving a sports injury. Maybe you twisted wrong kicking the ball during a soccer match or tripped while out jogging. No matter how the injury happened, Dr. Peter Lazarnick (Dr. Pete) is here to help. We provide you with the appropriate therapy depending on your needs. Your Carrollton, GA, chiropractor will get you off the bench and back into the game!   The most common way for you to get a sports injury is through overuse. This happens when find yourself doing the same thing over and over again. You end up wearing down the soft tissues and other muscles. Every athlete is at risk, regardless of the sport they play. An example is Lateral Epicondylitis. This affects tennis and golf players. Their elbows end up severely inflamed and painful. The pain stems from the repetitive motion of swinging the tennis racquet or golf club.   The top priority for your Carrollton, GA, chiropractor is determining the cause of yo...

Running and Lower Back Pain

Regular exercise is essential for good health. The spine depends on muscle support to keep its discs from becoming herniated and its joint cushioning supple. But when people are reliant on a single form of exercise, they are at increased risk for overuse injuries. Runners are especially likely to develop lower back pain, so we at the Carrollton chiropractic office of Dr. Peter Lazarnick (Dr. Pete) wanted to offer some advice. Running is a high impact sport. It subjects the spine to a lot of jostling, which requires the spinal discs to absorb a lot of shocks. People are likelier to suffer a herniated disc if they are older or have ruptured a disc before, and a herniation in the lumbar region could lead to sciatica. More commonly, the muscles responsible for keeping the spine straight become strained, resulting in soreness in their immediate vicinity and more swaying in the back.  When a patient complains of lower back pain, we’ll examine them for slipped discs and hairline fractures. What are Stingers?

If you’ve ever played contact sports, you’re doubtlessly familiar with stingers. Also called burners, stingers are injuries felt in the neck and shoulder. Although they are often short-lived, they could be a sign of more trouble to come, which is why we at the Carrolton chiropractic office of Dr. Peter Lazarnick (Dr. Pete) want our patients to seek an evaluation if they suffer one. The nerves to the arm emerge from the neck vertebrae and bundle together in the shoulder. If the head is suddenly pushed too far while the arm is being pushed the other way, the shoulder nerves may be briefly compressed. This would cause a sudden, shooting pain accompanied by a feeling of heat or numbness. A person’s first stinger usually does not last for more than a few minutes, but having suffered one puts them at greater risk for suffering more, which may get worse. We use imaging testing and manual examinations to determine whether a patient has suffered damage to the spinal column itself. If the proble...

Sports Injuries

At our practice, Dr. Pete Lazarnick (Dr. Pete) encourages patients to consider chiropractic care for sports injuries. Dr. Pete uses a series of spinal adjustments and physical therapy techniques to relieve pain caused by sports and prevent re-injury. During your first visit with Dr. Pete, he will assess and diagnose your injury while creating a treatment plan to begin the recovery process. Chiropractors are trained to manage sports injuries through joint manipulation, soft tissue therapies, and individual exercises to properly heal an injury. Regardless of the injury, Dr. Pete treats your whole body during recovery and not the individual area that is causing pain. Medical doctors treat injuries with surgery and painkillers that don’t always fix the problem and instead provide only temporary pain relief that will have you back on the sidelines. Our goal is to keep you on the field and off of the sidelines which is why we give special attention to your spine, joints, tendons, and nerves ...

Avoiding Overuse Injuries

Chiropractic isn’t just about spinal adjustments; it’s about treating musculoskeletal ailments in a way that is non-invasive and low-risk. At Dr. Pete’s Carrollton office, we do a lot of work with soft tissues, helping athletes to maintain or regain comfortable function. But many of the injuries in sports medicine are preventable, which is why we want to teach our patients to avoid overuse. Not all muscle injuries occur in a single, dramatic incident. Overuse can cause muscle fibers to fray slowly, and although this makes large breaks likelier, an athlete will usually feel pain or weakness before that. A person can suffer from overuse even if they only work out occasionally if they do so during overly long sessions. This is why we encourage patients to work out daily in periods of about thirty minutes instead of trying to cram all their exercise into the weekend. We also encourage athletes to do different activities on different days, allowing them to build up different muscle groups a...
