Keeping Comfortable while Traveling

Are you worried a bad back could cause trouble during your summer vacation? Our goal at the Carrollton chiropractic office of Dr. Peter Lazarnick (Dr. Pete) is to help our patients live free of pain. While we’ll always be here to provide adjustments and other soft tissue therapies, we want our patients to know how to maintain good back habits while traveling.

If you’ve ever had a desk job, you’ve probably heard the advice to get up and stretch your back at least every half hour. That goes for when you’re seated in vehicles, too. When you’re sitting, keep a cylindrical pillow in the small of your back, and consider using a neck pillow, as well. If you’re not driving, keep your feet flat on the floor and your knees at a right angle. If you are driving, scoot the seat up as far as you need to avoid stretching your lumbar spine while reaching for the steering wheel. Remember to empty your back pockets before sitting, because anything that is uncomfortable will only get worse.

Although we all have mobile screens to keep us entertained, remember to keep your head up while you look at them. Don’t pack too much in a single suitcase and remember to push up with your legs while lifting things. If you have a joint condition, we may be able to help you find an appropriately shaped cushion and advise you on which muscles you need to exercise most.

Dr. Peter Lazarnick is located at 486 Bankhead Hwy, Carrollton, Georgia, 30117. To schedule an appointment, call 770-832-2226 or visit www.askdrpete.com.
