Electrical Muscle Stimulation

If you have a spasm in your back or neck muscle, or even in the sciatic nerve, electrical muscle stimulation works well in relaxing the muscle and allowing it to return to its normal state rather quickly. Electrical muscle stimulation devices (EMS) have been shown to safely increase muscle strength, to decrease body weight and body fat, and to improve muscle firmness and tone in healthy individuals.

Electrical muscle stimulation therapy consists of a control unit, two lead wires and two to four neurostimulation electrodes. The control unit usually has a timer, pulse width, pulse rate and sensory output knobs. The lead wires connect the control unit and the electrodes and transmit the electric current. The level of electricity administered will be controlled by Dr. Peter Lazarnick (Dr. Pete). Depending on the patient’s pain level, it may be intensified or reduced.
