Introduction to Scoliosis

Scoliosis is a condition a lot of people have heard of, but not much is known about. It is a sideways curvature in the upper spine that causes people’s shoulders and hips to be uneven. At the Carrollton chiropractic office of Dr. Peter Lazarnick (Dr. Pete), we monitor patients for early signs of this condition’s development and help them to manage its symptoms without drugs or surgery.

Not all cases of scoliosis are severe. They may be caused by the legs being uneven lengths or damage to the back muscles. But in most cases, scoliosis develops for unclear reasons in teenagers going through their growth spurt and will become worse until the growth spurt ends. It can occur in children of either sex but tends to progress more in girls. Scoliosis is not always painful during its early development, but it may eventually cause chronic back pain.

One of the most common treatments for scoliosis is a plastic brace worn under the clothes. It is worn until the child stops growing in height. If they are experiencing discomfort, we can provide safe pain relief through treatments including manual adjustments, low level laser therapy, and electric muscle stimulation.

Dr. Peter Lazarnick is located at 486 Bankhead Hwy, Carrollton, Georgia, 30117. To schedule an appointment, call 770-832-2226 or visit www.askdrpete.com.
